Zodiac FanFic: Lion’s Gate New Moon in Leo
Bethany Tabor
First, a note on the 8/8 Lion’s Gate:
This year’s Lion’s Gate New Moon has an unmatched powerful depth. Each year there is a galactic alignment of the Sun, Sirius (the galaxy’s second brightest star), and Orion (the warrior constellation) that reaches its zenith on August 8. Astronomically, this is a major alignment; astrologically, this event is understood to be a powerful energetic portal. An example of the effect of this cosmic energy is that the Lion’s Gate coincides with the rising of the Nile River (Ancient Egyptians interpreted the influx of life-sustaining water and the rising of the star Sirius as the most powerful blessing). The Great Pyramids of Giza were even constructed so that their points are aligned with the Lion’s Gate. The Sun is never so happy as when he aligns with his beloved Moon in his domicile of Leo. Leo is the zodiacal house of creativity, inspiration, eroticism, play, and sensuality. As above, so below, and we Earth children have an easy time tapping into our inspirational and creative wellsprings during Leo season. The fact that the initiatory New Moon takes place on the same day as the Lion’s Gate amplifies creative power. Magic abounds.
In the cosmos, the Sun and Moon are throwing a party of decadence. The invitation says to enter through the front garden. Walk through the portico made of pure gold and you find yourself in a bath house with basins made of opal stone and elaborate mosaics illustrating the legends of the starry constellations covering the walls. Splashing around and luxuriating in the feast of the first harvest planted at the beginning of Spring, this New Moon is full of abundance and excitement (August 8). The great Sun has also invited Mercury into this Leo palace of pleasures. Shortly before the celebration, they met up for an important appointment that brought clarity, truth, and fortification of our creative purpose (August 1). This Mercurial meeting also bore the gifts of levity and detachment to help balance out the austerity of Saturn and Uranus—both of whom were threatening to shut down this New Moon banquet.
Saturn and Uranus have been working through a stalemate since the beginning of the year. They’ve managed to put their quarrels aside for this epic cosmological event, but the lingering tension is starting to affect the Sun’s energy. Jupiter’s backward ingress into Aquarius is helping the situation a little, but the fun must end sometime. As with any over the top party, someone’s night might end in tears while another wakes the next morning in an unfamiliar place with a crushing headache.
Venus and Mars have already traversed this complicated dynamic and are now enjoying their time together in astute and flexible Virgo. As the cleanup crew, these two get to work making the bath house beautiful again. Innovative Uranus gave them some helpful insights for material and psychological cleansing, which are being implemented now (August 2). These tips and tricks will also come in handy when Jupiter and Mercury find themselves in a tricky spot, talking over one another (August 11). Make a point to see things from someone else’s perspective.
